HOW CAN ARTISTIC CREATIONS BE PROTECTED?

Royalties protect works "due to the simple fact of their creation". This means that it is not necessary for the work to be used for its author to benefit from the right to ban all reproductions or representations. French law is thus protective. Yet, implementing this advance protection requires a minimum of precaution. It is effectively strongly recommended that, as soon as a work has been completed, proof be made of the date of creation so as to protect oneself against any fraudulent or abusive use.
There are several solutions available for artists, regardless of their art:
-The simplest and least expensive solution is to send oneself a copy of the work by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt. Obviously, the envelope must not be opened, but kept in a safe place. In case of dispute, the envelope can then be handed to the judge so that he or she may open it in the presence of all the parties.
-The use of a "SOLEAU" envelope is possible for works of art. As the envelope is perforated by laser, it is not possible to use it for rigid supports. The envelope must be sent in again after a period of 5 years.
-Most copyright collective societies (such as SNAC, SACD, SCAM) offer a renewable filing service, in exchange for payment.
-Filing with a bailiff or a notary.
